The E-Myth Revisited

Michael E. Gerber
Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do about It

The E-Myth has been a pivotal book in Brad Malone’s career growth as both a consultant and a business owner – he bought his first copy in 1992.  It helped to separate his role(s) as individual technical contributor and business owner – and learn how to prioritize and execute the actions needed by both roles.  The E-Myth Revisited came out in 2005 and Brad re-reads it every couple of years.

It is a must-read book for any small / medium business owner.

E-Myth \ ‘e-,’mith\ n 1: the entrepreneurial myth: the myth that most people who start small businesses are entrepreneurs 2: the fatal assumption that an individual who understands the technical work of a business can successfully run a business that does that technical work.

Within the AV industry, there are a lot of very talented people who have started companies. But their talents tend to be in AV, and they have not necessarily had a lot of financial exposure. The E-Myth, uses the example of evolving from being a baker to creating a bakery empire. And this same type of evolution happens in many of the integrators that work with Navigate.
