We Need More Leaders Focused on NextGen Leadership Development

NextGen Leadership Development

In the midst of The Great Resignation, we need more people in leadership positions that are focused on growing and developing the people underneath them.

On this episode of the Navigator, Brad Malone is joined by Craig Jacobus to talk about the reward-based leadership versus responsibility-based leadership.

What is the difference between these two styles, and what is their impact on nextgen leadership development?

Reward-based Leadership thinking revolves around individuals thinking they have earned the right to lead and enjoy all the trappings and status benefits of their leadership title.

Responsibility-based Leadership thinking revolves around individuals feeling that it is an honor to lead those around them and they have a responsibility to improve the lives of those they are leading.

But if you truly want to grow your business, it is part and parcel to get your people up to the highest level that they can be.

“People want to know, what cog in this wheel am I? What is the greater good?” says Jacobus. “They truly want to understand, what is our mission beyond just making money? How are we changing the world, to use an overused statement. How are we really creating value for our customers, for our communities? And what part am I in all of this?”

Today’s leaders should understand that the next generation of leaders want to feel like they’re part of something.
