AVI-SPL Manages Growth with a Commitment to Standards and Process

Standard Process

With 2,500 people, and 7,800 installations in 2019, how does AVI-SPL work through standards, process and accountability?

There is a lot of growth in the AV industry, and 2020 could be the first year an integration firm hits $1 billion. Some of this growth can be attributed to the rampant mergers and acquisitions taking place – it seems like every month another blockbuster deal is announced!

In 2018, Commercial Integrator wrote about 20 separate acquisitions. In 2019, that figure increased to 32 M&A related stories. So far, M&A activity shows no signs of slowing down in 2020, and the expectation is that the current rate of consolidation will continue.

But what happens once the deal completes and it’s time to onboard another organization? That’s when the hard work begins. Every integration firm has their own way of doing things. When you merge two integrators together, does everyone keep doing things the same old way?

Establishing a standard process makes it easier for integrators to manage growth.

In today’s video, Brad Malone is joined by Mark Linton, SVP of Systems Integration for AVI-SPL to discuss all this, and more.

AVI-SPL  took the top spot on SCN’s Top 50 2019 list, with estimated revenue of $905 million – which is $85 million more than its 2018 revenue. Some of this growth can be attributed to AVI-SPL’s acquisition of Digital Video Networks in July, 2019.

“Having a standard process in place is critically important for our existing organization, but especially every time we acquire a new company,” says Linton.

“We have built out standards via our playbook, which includes everything from sales operations, to service operations, and obviously all the systems integration components in the middle,” Linton reports. “Having a standard process is absolutely critical to how we operate from a global perspective.”

When onboarding an acquisition, AVI-SPL provides their playbook. “This is crucial to bring them into the fold as quickly as possible,” says Linton.

“It’s efficient, it’s effective, and it’s driving good end user satisfaction – it’s all about the customer.”
